Founded by a group of dedicated volunteers, Maricopa Bird Alliance (formerly the Maricopa Audubon Society) has served Arizona’s birding and conservation community for over six decades. What began as a small group of passionate birders has grown into a dynamic, volunteer-driven nonprofit dedicated to the enjoyment, study, and protection of birds and their habitats across the Sonoran Desert and beyond. Through countless field trips, education programs, and collaborative conservation projects, Maricopa Bird Alliance has become a trusted voice for bird protection, environmental awareness, and community fellowship in Arizona.
We are devoted to the protection and restoration of bird habitats in the Southwest through fellowship, education, and community involvement.
Our members work to connect people with nature, inspire stewardship, and ensure that future generations can experience the incredible diversity of birdlife found in Arizona.
We advocate for responsible environmental practices, participate in habitat restoration projects, and collaborate with regional conservation partners to safeguard critical birding areas. MBA is a member of the Coalition for Sonoran Desert Protection (https://www.sonorandesert.org/).
From beginner bird walks to speaker programs, we provide opportunities for all ages to learn about birds, ecology, and conservation science. Our events foster curiosity and appreciation for wildlife through hands-on experiences and local expertise.
Members actively contribute to citizen science projects, including the Christmas Bird Count, Great Backyard Bird Count, and local habitat monitoring. These efforts help track population changes and guide conservation priorities statewide.
Maricopa Bird Alliance hosts monthly meetings, guest lectures, field trips, and our annual banquet—creating a welcoming community where birders of all skill levels can connect, learn, and share their passion.
Whether you’re a lifelong birder or just beginning to explore the natural world, there’s a place for you here.
