Annual Arizona Christmas Bird Count
CALLING ALL BIRDERS Including Beginners!
Every year the Maricopa Bird Alliance participates in the Christmas Bird Count. Your observations add valuable data that helps us monitor the health of Arizona’s avian population.
The National Audubon Society has conducted Christmas bird counts since 1900. Volunteers throughout the Western Hemisphere go afield between December 14 and January 5 to record every individual bird encountered within a designated 15-mile diameter circle on that day. These records comprise an extensive database of winter bird populations and overall health of the environment. We will have multiple designated Christmas Bird Count Circles across Arizona and participants are typically assigned to teams based on bird identification skills and endurance and preferences.
